1/11

Candoco Dance Company present an evening of bold new dance featuring 12 disabled and non-disabled performers from China, the UK and Brazil.

With '12' Claire Cunningham invites us into a wondrous, imaginative world - a theatrical piece that plays with life's crutches. What holds us up? What supports us? When do they tip over from something you love to something darker? The result is a riotous piece full of childlike beauty and surreal humour.

MENTOR

Claire is an experienced solo performer who makes autobiographical work and ‘12’ was her first project choreographing a group piece with 12 dancers. The challenge was to make the transition from solo artist to choreographer and my job as mentor was to give her the choreographic tools to take her initial concepts and develop her practice through the devising process.

Once the movement material was generated we then worked on how to shape the piece dramaturgically and combine the other crucial elements such as light and sound.

This project is an Unlimited Commission for the Cultural Olympiad and was supported by The Brazilian Embassy.
